Detoxing: First official week

The Clean Week 2: True Elimination Week
Last week I eliminated a lot of naughty foods from my diet and worked on some bad eating habits. This week I started the Elimination Phase of the Clean Detox eating plan

You eat 3 well balanced meals made of only foods from the elimination food list that can be found here. A lot of these foods are unfamiliar to me, so at the beginning of the week I made a master meal plan so I wouldn't be caught wondering what to eat.

This turned out to be really helpful. Trying to come up with well balanced meals on the fly can be really difficult, especially if you are not familiar with the foods you're working with. If you're like me, and you find yourself facing a lot of new ingredients, make sure you plan ahead for the week.

Challenges

I've had to get creative, because the list is so restrictive. No dairy, no wheat, no oats, no soy, no sugar, not even Splenda!  There are a lot of fruits and veggies that you can eat, but even those categories are full of restrictions. But it's been interesting to learn some new ideas for healthy meals that I would never have thought of before if I hadn't been forced to think outside my box.

Breakfast Time!
Usually for breakfast I eat some combination of toast, cottage cheese, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, cereal, or fruit. But with this new eating plan pretty much EVERYTHING I eat for breakfast was eliminated!

So I did some research and went to the Whole Foods Store. There I found a hot breakfast cereal from Bob's Red Mill. It's made of ground Buckwheat, (which is allowed on the elimination diet) and it turned out to be pretty good. The consistency is much like oatmeal and just as bland. It tastes like whatever you put in it.

This is a small bag, and I was concerned it wouldn't last long. But one cup of the Buckwheat made a ton of cereal! Enough to last 2-3 days at least. Probably longer if I add a lot of other stuff to the cereal!
This morning I added apples, cinnamon, walnuts, and some Stevia. It was creamy enough that I didn't need to add any milk, so I drank a glass of Almond milk on the side.
It was surprisingly satisfying! It's no Frosted Lucky Charms, but it'll do! I have some other ideas like adding berries or pears to it and will probably keep eating it even after the Detox is over.

Supplements
This eating plan can be restrictive. I've been wanting to look into adding vitamins and dietary supplements for a while, and I thought this was a good time to do it. This week I added spirulina, one of the listed "Superfoods" and a multivitamin. And of course, lots and lots of WATER!
